Onze Tribute Peppers worden geteeld in het dorp Qingxi. Het kleine dorp produceert een variant genaamd gongjiao (Tribute Pepper), zo gewaardeerd om zijn vele toepassingen dat het als eerbetoon aan de keizer werd aangeboden. De pepers worden uiterst zorgvuldig met de hand geplukt om hun delicate oliën te behouden. Heel toegevoegd aan lange stoofschotels en stoofpotten, of geroosterd en gemalen om iconische gerechten zoals mapo tofu en tweemaal gekookt varkensvlees te garneren, geven vers geoogste gongjiao's gerechten een elektrische kick met de kenmerkende Sichuan-nummering en een uitgesproken citrusboeket.
